I am glad to hear you found the spot tricky. I was wondering if it would be easier coming down but it sounds like you still have to lean into the rock quite a bit, so it is worth noting no matter what direction you go.

This was my first hike in the park and I had not spent any time at all walking across the slickrock. By the time I was done with the trip, however, I was much more confident of my shoes to grip the rock. I wonder if it would have been less intimidating if I had done one of the easier scrambles first.

I wrote this description of the tricky part of the Primitive Loop. I was hiking in the opposite direction.

After the Private Arch side trail, the Primitive Trail turns south through an area of fins and descends towards a wash. Before arriving at the wash Box Arch is on the right. There isn’t a sign pointing out Box Arch so keep an eye out for the footprints of other hikers in the sand. Just below Box Arch is the one really tricky part of the trail. There is a slanted narrow ledge above a drop off that was a nervous area to get across. I leaned far to the uphill side and stepped very carefully to the point where I could slide down to the bottom. It looked like this would be a slippery and hard spot to climb up if you were hiking the loop counter clock wise.

Oh, this brought back good memories! I remember at some point on the trail, we came across a puddle between two rocks. Two other hikers were there too deciding how to get accross (the rocks went up on about a 45 degree slope...slick). I decided to take off my shoes and go through the water...:)

My kitty and I have been enjoying the squirrels in our yard. They come right up to the patio door - if the screen wasn't there, my kitty, Brittany, and the squirrel's noses might have touched! The young ones are so cute! They don't bother the birdfeeder, but scrap around below for missed seeds.

my goodness your meadowlark is a lot zingier than ours, which is a drab wee bird - but with a beautiful song.
It must be amazing to see dinosaur footprints - less wonderful to come across a rattlesnake.

I didn't know that there were ptarmigan in North America - I thought they were unique to Scotland. At least I'm assuming you have them because of the trail name.
So lovely to see Pasque flowers in the wild - I have some carefully nurtured specimens in my garden.

I have a momma squirrel who took over my
flicker box, there is at least one baby
in there, I can hear it, The mother looks like she
has more than one pup.
I raised a baby that was blown out of a tree during a T storm, about one inch long, It grew to full size and then
released it in the back yard, ws there for many years. Great fun
Pigeons are the rats, (fleas, lice, ticks, mites) squirrels are clean
